A media report claimed that the Pakistani intelligence agency , Inter-Services Intelligence, ISI, has planned to send its operatives to England to watch the Champion’s Trophy match between India and Pakistan and display banners of Kashmir-related issues in a bid to gain global media attention. As per the report, by India Today, these agents, as per them precisely 14 of them, will make this move as India and Pakistan cricket teams clash in Edgsbaston, England on Sunday. The India Today report quoted sources which tells very precisely how the ISI is going to operate during the match, including size of the banners. As per them, ‘A3 placards’ will be used by the agency, which is otherwise known for stemming violence to cause trouble for India. These placards will also reportedly contain freedom for Kashmir messages. The report also gave a few of the slogans which will be displayed. ‘Kashmir Seeks Attention’, ‘We Stand with Kashmir’, ‘Free the state of Jammu and Kashmir now’ being a few samples of them. The sources of the report states that the main motive of this is to grab international attention by getting within the frame of one of the cameras on the ground. And at the top of it, the Indian intelligence agencies are aware of the plan of the ISI. However, what is really funny about the whole incident is, the ISI, which is known for conducting deadly acts of terror against India will resort to such a display of non-violent protest in England. Similarly, such a display might not necessarily be conducted by the ISI at all, and the protestors might be actual sympathisers of the Pro-Kashmir issues. But yes, the implication of this move might be more than just to grab global eyeballs. What can be actually possible is the fact that this might be an attempt to stir or fuel the pro-Kashmir freedom protests in the valley. With the mess which has already been made in Kashmir, this might have far-reaching consequences on the movement. Or all of this could be just a few cricket-enthusiastic ISI operatives, who had only one way of watching the India-Pakistan match live, by telling their head that they were on a mission.
